SDAN, the Self-Directed Advocacy Network of Maryland, Inc., is seeking volunteer leaders to join its dynamic board of directors.
To be a Board Member, you must believe:
- Each person has a right to a self-directed life
- All people can self-direct their lives when given the support they need
- The person at the center of the plan is the priority and leader
- The participant, their family, and their circle of support are all respected members of one team
- All people have a voice in where they live, who they live with, and what they do
- People have the ability to design their own lives
Board members are actively involved in SDAN’s operational governance and advocacy efforts. At a minimum, board members are expected to attend quarterly meetings of the full Board of Directors and serve on at least one working committee that meets regularly throughout the year.
The board needs a variety of skills, with a strong emphasis on candidates with a connection to self-directed services, particularly those who are a:
- person with a developmental disability (18 or older)
- parent, guardian, or family member of a child or adult with a developmental disability
- support broker with experience in Maryland currently or within the last five years
- registered nurse working for self-directing participants
- anyone else with working in the DD community with knowledge/experience with the SDS model
Individuals expertise in Medicaid regulations, legal, legislative, fundraising, and media relations, as well as those connected to other disability rights advocacy groups and communities of color are also encouraged to apply.
