DESCRIPTION:SDAN’s October meeting announced the launch of its “The SDS Sustainability Project” ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) grant\, awarded through the DDA. The ability of participants to continue self-directing for as long as they wish to do so has been a long-term advocacy focus for SDAN. This project aims to support self-directing participants during a crucial period of transition that typically occurs later in the adult years. SUMMARY:SDAN Membership Meeting - The Role of the Support Broker in Self-Directed Services
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, May 11th\, at 12PM via Zoom \nSDAN’s May meeting will focus on the role of the Support Broker in Self-Directed Services.  The Support Broker has a unique role in the team of people supporting each self-directing participant and their families\, and making self-direction more sustainable when families are unavailable to support their participant.  The role of the Support Broker is equally if not more important when the participant does not have family or significant other support.   We will discuss the roles and responsibilities of the Support Broker and the limitations of their role currently in place\, with potential advocacy efforts to protect and expand this crucial role.

DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, March 30\, at 12PM via Zoom\n\nSDAN’s March membership meeting focused on the Self-Direction Act of 2022\, which was enacted on October 1\, 2022.\n\nAfter three years of advocacy\, we now have key flexibilities in self-directed services guaranteed by Maryland law\, several of which require waiver changes. Those provisions have been incorporated into the waiver renewal and are scheduled to go into effect on July 1\, 2023.\n\n\nWe discussed new services\, changes to existing services\, and other key aspects of the law.
